I just realized, when Jack saves Elizabeth from drowning by freeing her from her corset, he saves her in more than just one way. He enters hers and Will’s life and frees them. Frees Elizabeth from a life she’s suffocating in. Frees Will from the hatred of his own pirate blood. They both become bolder, harsher and unashamedly themselves. It’s a bit twisted – finding self-actualization in being bad – but also very beautiful.
