I’m just saying Melissa is 2 inches taller than Chyler imagine Alex’s distress when she realizes Kara is taller than her iMAGINE

‘Distress’ is not quite the word that comes to Alex’s mind. Especially not the first time Kara does the epic, ‘swoops in and saves her life’ thing. By, you know, literally putting herself between danger and Alex. She’s shielding Alex with her body and there’s just this second when their eyes meet and Kara smiles and Alex’s heart stops for an entirely different reason. They’re in the middle of a firefight and it’s kind of a wildly inappropriate thing, but Alex doesn’t think she’s ever seen anything quite so gorgeous.

Also, turns out that Kara being taller means that when Alex gives in and tugs her down to kiss her, the added benefit is Kara’s still protecting her. No one can really get a clear photo of her face because there’s wind and Kara’s got the ‘epic hero hair’ thing going on and that’s obscuring enough of Alex’s face. Of course that also means Kara kind of has to take off with Alex, which is another reason Kara being taller than her is different but good: winding her arms around Kara’s neck and letting her fly them away *is* pretty awesome. (And she ends up with a few good photos, because James really does have an eye for this stuff.)

It’s not quite what Alex ever expected, to end up physically smaller than her partner, but well, Alex is also like a pissed off, feisty kitten: she completely forgets her size when provoked. Kara might not be what she’d expected, but then she never was. Kara has always been different for Alex, and that might just be one of the things Alex loves best.

This totally reminds me of that thing we discussed with Alex suddenly being a headline and people wanting to know who Kara is kissing. 

But yes, I love the dynamic that Kara is taller and it throws Alex repeatedly (or it does me writing it, at least), but she secretly loves it. Tugging someone with superpowers down to her level without any sort of resistance makes her really smug. Kara always comes willingly, and she sags against Alex just so.

It also makes Kara and excellent big spoon, and sometimes Alex just needs to be the one that gets wrapped up and held.

Alex loves that Kara is taller, but she’ll admit it to no one and most people forget it because when Alex rages, she’s imposing as fuck.

That may or may not’ve been where I was pulling the image from.  🙂  I think about that image a lot, by the way.  (Brain is still quietly prodding away at the set up, just so you know)

Heh, yeah.  Alex will grumble and occasionally whine (but only where Kara can hear), and definitely mutters, but well, it kind of loses any weight when such complaints are mumbled against Kara’s mouth.  For the record: she just grins all the more, tightens her grip on Alex, and enjoys kissing grumpy Alex. Especially when it’s ‘grumpy but actually smug Alex’.

Alex has spent so long being strong and protecting, that she completely forgets how to break apart when she needs to.  Instead, she bottles it up until it’s too much and she’s shattering, and then quietly trying to put the pieces back together again.  Kara -when she finally knows the truth of Alex’s job and the DEO- knows what to start looking for, and when she can, when Alex will let her, she wraps Alex up in her arms and doesn’t let go until she has to.  And sometimes?  Sometimes Kara really needs to be able to do that.  Sometimes when the days have been long and horrible and she’s almost lost Alex again, Kara needs to be able to pull Alex into her arms and curl up around her.  She needs to know without a shadow of a doubt that Alex is safe and warm and content.  At least for a little while.  She can go back to being BAMF super Special Agent Danvers in the morning, but right now, she’s getting cuddled and you know what?  Alex definitely isn’t complaining.

Because that’s one of the most wonderful things about them: they’re equals. They both protect and are protected.  Both of them are strong and both of them can be vulnerable, and they have this gorgeous give and take that make them each other’s safe harbour amongst the chaos that is their lives.

Also: Alex doesn’t have to admit it to anyone because the only one who really needs to know already does.  And lets her get away with it because it really is adorable how disgruntled Alex kind of pretends to get.  (And that works to both of their benefit.)
